Wanganui Road Rodders was founded in 1973 by a group of people with a passion and interest in hot rods. The club became an Incorporated Society in 1974 and built the Club Rooms in 1983 which were officially opened by the Patron of the Club, the late John Lockett.

Currently there are over sixty members including founding members, with interests in drag racing, hot rodding, American, Australian, muscle and classic cars who attend a wide range of car events all over New Zealand.

Wanganui Road Rodders is affiliated to the New Zealand Hot Rod Association (NZHRA) who aims to promote safe hot rodding with 105 affiliate member clubs throughout the country.
